When searching for SIM cards for your timing systems, please note the following hints.

What kind of SIM card do I need?

• Size: Mini-SIM, 15x25mm, 2FF/ UICC
• Ability to send and receive SMS recommended
• No SIM PIN recommended
• No provider preselection recommended
• Invoicing based on your usage
  • Pay-as-you-go: You only pay when the SIM card is used. Please note there are different billing methods, e.g. 1KB increments, or 1MB increments. No matter how much data is transferred, the provider will bill the minimum amount. Hence, we recommend 1KB increments, as some calls require less than a MB.
  • Pooling: makes sense if you have dozens of SIM cards where some are barely used, and some are used more frequently. You will usually have a shared volume quota for all your cards.

I used to have RACE RESULT SIM cards, what do I need to do know?

• To find the right SIM card, take above hints into consideration
• After inserting your new SIM cards, you will most likely need to adjust the APN settings on the device. 
  • Ubidium: Enter the APN settings in the Mobile submenu
  • Track Boxes: Use the Track Box Setup Portal, a Management Box or send a SMS to your new SIM card to configure the Track Box
  • Decoder: This is done through the Browser Interface

How much data do I need?

• Data usage depends on a number of factors, such as number of passings uploaded, amount of remote interaction, firmware downloads enabled, ...
  • Decoder: rule of thumb approx. 1 MB / 1,000 detections + 1 MB / hour
  • Track Boxes: similar to decoder. Firmware updates once in a while require less than 1 MB
  • Ubidium: Slightly more than the decoder. To reduce mobile data usage, disable regular firmware updates over mobile connection. Firmware-updates are usually around 300MB.
