Replacing the Battery

We test every single battery intensely to ensure it has the rated capacity and can deploy its advertised decoder battery run time. Please note that unfortunately real life capacity of batteries not bought from and therefore tested by RACE RESULT might deviate from its rating drastically, resulting in a reduced battery life and wrong battery capacity indications.

Purpose

To safely replace the Battery of the system, when instructed to by RACE RESULT HQ.

Materials Required:

1x           Battery (Panasonic LC-CA1215P1, or Siga S12-12 or Siga Langzeit 15Ah replacement battery bought through race result web shop, ideally)
1x           Phillips head screw driver (Size 2)

Failure to use the battery specified above will mean that the decoder is no longer safe to travel by air. Any battery that is not a Lead-Acid battery, may compromise the system integrity and charging safety.

Method:

1. Open the main panel of the RACE RESULT System.
2. Identify the battery of the system. Ensure all cables are disconnected from the battery.

3. Remove the bolt which attaches the battery circuit board to the battery holding bar. Do this using the screwdriver, turning it anticlockwise.

4. Slide the battery circuit board from the battery by pulling it in the direction shown in image below, horizontal to the battery. Do this using the screwdriver, turning it anticlockwise. Some force may be required. Set the curcuit board asside for now.

5. Remove the screws which attach the metal bar that holds the battery into the case, to the case. Do this using the screwdriver, turning it anticlockwise. Some force may be required.

6. Remove the battery from the case. You will need to tilt the battery toward the center of the case, so that the battery can be removed.

7. Place the replacement battery into position. You will need to insert the battery at a (approximately) 10 degree angle to the case’s edge. Push the battery to the edge of the case.

8. Attach the bar which holds the battery into the case. Do this by

        a. Placing the bar along the battery as shown. The bar should be centered along the short edge of the battery. If the bar has sunk screwholes, ensure this side is up.

        b. Loosely attach the screw at the terminal end of the battery.  Do this using the screwdriver, turning it clockwise until the screw head sits on top of the bar but is not completely screwed in.

        c. Attach the screw to the opposite end of the battery. Do this using the screwdriver, turning it clockwise until the screw will no longer turn.

        d. Continue to screw in the screw at the terminal end of the battery.  Do this using the screwdriver, turning it clockwise until the screw will no longer turn.

9.  Slide the battery circuit board into the battery by pushing it in the direction shown in the image below, at a (approximately) 10 degree angle with the battery, until it is in operating position.

10. Attached the bolt which attaches the battery circuit board to the battery holding bar. Do this using the screwdriver, turning it clockwise.

The battery circuit board may bend slightly when attaching it to the battery unit. This is okay – you should screw in the board until the screw cannot turn without excessive force.

11.  Close the main panel of the RACE RESULT System.

12. When inserting a Siga S12-12 battery, open the Menu and navigate to System. For SIGA replacement select YES. For all other batteries (Panasonic LC-CA1215P1, or Langzeit 15Ah), please select NO. From firmware v2.72 onwards, changing the battery type in the menu is no longer necessary.
