Connecting the System

In order to receive the times from the Decoder in your event file it will either need to be connected locally to your computer or connected to the internet to upload via the cloud.

Using cloud upload offers the easiest connection to RACE RESULT 14 when working online, as the system will be automatically shown and can be accessed and monitored from any device.

LAN - Ethernet

RACE RESULT Decoders can be connected via ethernet cable directly to your computer or to any local network. The decoder has two ethernet ports located on the main panel, either of these can be used to connect to your computer or network.

When connecting a decoder via a local network you will need to run the RACE RESULT Web Server on your computer in order to connect through RACE RESULT 14.

Note that many laptops do not offer an ethernet port as standard so it may be necessary to use a USB-Ethernet dongle if you plan to connect directly to your computer.

When connecting to a network every device will be assigned an IP address, this is a unique identifier for each device. If your network contains a router then normally this will automatically assign IP addresses, otherwise, it may be necessary to manually assign IP addresses, particularly if you are connecting directly to your computer.

For more information on network configuration see the Networking Guide

By default, the system will use a static IP assignment To manually change the IP address on the decoder, open the Menu and navigate to the network settings.

You can change the IP configuration to automatic by changing the value for Use DHCP for Ethernet to Yes, or select the manual ethernet configuration.

    D N S   S e r v e r :       1 9 2 . 1 6 8 . 0 0 1 . 0 0 1

You can then set the IP address and other network settings as required.

Cloud Upload

Decoders can be set to upload via the internet, this is the best option for connecting to your system as when doing so the system will be automatically displayed in the RACE RESULT 14 Timing tab and can be accessed and monitored from any location.

Cloud upload can be enabled when an internet connection is available either via Ethernet or SIM.

Connecting to the Internet

Mobile SIM Card

Decoders can use any SIM card which supports data upload to connect via the 4G/LTE Modem. The SIM card slot is located on the Main Panel.

By default the decoder will attempt to use Automatic APN settings, these should work for most SIM cards globally however in some cases you may need to configure the APN manually, or if your SIM card has a PIN then this will also need to be set.

To configure these settings, open the Menu and navigate to the Upload menu, here you can enter the SIM PIN if required and set the Mobile APN to Manual.

    E n a b l e d :         n o

To configure the APN settings you will need to open the Browser Interface of the decoder via an ethernet connection, and enter the system IP address into your browser.

When upload is enabled, if using a SIM card then the main screen will cycle the IP address between the IP setting and the mobile connection status, when it shows Mobile: Connected then the SIM card has successfully connected to the internet.

If your mobile network does not connect automatically then see the GSM connection process stages to troubleshoot.

Ethernet (LAN)

If you already have a network setup which is providing an internet connection then you can connect the decoder via an ethernet cable to your network.

See the Ethernet guide for the decoder to configure this correctly.

If the network you are connected to is providing an internet connection then an asterisk will be displayed next to IP on the main screen.

Cloud Settings

Once your decoder is connected to the internet you will need to first set your Customer ID on the system, this ensures that the data is linked to your RACE RESULT account.

To do this open Menu and navigate to the Upload Menu. Set the value for the Cust No to your RACE RESULT Customer ID, then set Enabled to YES.

    E n a b l e d :         n o

On the main menu the Upload will show the number of passings which have been successfully uploaded.
