Splits Prediction Algorithm & Tracking Simulation

In this episode of Bits & Beeps, we explain the Splits Prediction Algorithm used for athlete positioning on the my.raceresult.com Tracking Map. We also show how to simulate the Tracking Map and how to improve the accuracy of the visualization — even with only a few timing points on the course.

Splits prediction algorithm

• Factor derived from comparing completed sectors to the fastest possible time
• Applied to min. pace of remaining sectors
• Accuracy depends on realistic Min/Max values per sector

Tracking simulation

• Map visualization is calculated in the browser
• Simulated data needs to reflect the actual time of day
• Fast Forward isn't possible — the simulation follows real time of day

Model varying terrain between timing points

• Add an internal split where the pace profile changes
• Define min. pace according to the anticipated sector pace
• Don't confuse these with actual missed reads in the Timing Visualization
